Nucleation of quark matter in neutron stars cores

چکیده
We consider the general conditions of quark droplets formation in high density neutron matter. The growth of the quark bubble (assumed to contain a sufficiently large number of particles) can be described by means of a Fokker-Planck equation. The dynamics of the nucleation essentially depends on the physical properties of the medium it takes place. The conditions for quark bubble formation are analyzed within the frameworks of both dissipative and non-dissipative (with zero bulk and shear viscosity coefficients) approaches. The conversion time of the neutron star to a quark star is obtained as a function of the equation of state of the neutron matter and of the microscopic parameters of the quark nuclei. As an application of the obtained formalism we analyze the first order phase transition from neutron matter to quark matter in rapidly rotating neutron stars cores, triggered by the gravitational energy released during the spinning down of the neutron star. The endothermic conversion process, via gravitational energy absorption, could take place, in a very short time interval, of the order of few tens seconds, in a class of dense compact objects, with very high magnetic fields, called magnetars. Nucleation of quark matter bubbles in neutron stars.
The thermal nucleation of quark matter bubbles inside neutron stars is examined for various temperatures which the star may realistically encounter during its lifetime. It is found that for a bag constant less than a critical value, a very large part of the star will be converted into the quark phase within a fraction of a second. Depending on the equation of state for neutron star matter and s...
متن کاملSignal for the Quark-Hadron Phase Transition in Rotating Hybrid Stars
For the past 20 years it had been thought that the coexistence phase of the confined hadronic and quark matter phases, assumed to be a first order transition, was strictly excluded from neutron stars. This, however, was due to a seemingly innocuous idealization which has approximated away important physics. The reason is that neutron stars constitute multi-component bodies rather than single-co...
متن کاملImpact of Cfl Quark Matter on the Cooling of Compact Stars
The cooling mechanism of compact stars with quark cores in the color-flavor locked phase is discussed. It is argued that the high thermal conductivity of the quark core plays a key role in the stellar cooling. It implies that the cooling time of compact stars with color-flavor locked quark cores is similar to that of ordinary neutron stars, unless the star is almost completely made of color-fla...
متن کاملGamma Ray Bursts from delayed collapse of neutron stars to quark matter stars
We propose a model to explain how a Gamma Rays Burst can take place days or years after a supernova explosion. Our model is based on the conversion of a pure hadronic star (neutron star) into a star made at least in part of deconfined quark matter. The conversion process can be delayed if the surface tension at the interface between hadronic and deconfined-quark-matter phases is taken into acco...
متن کاملQuantum Kinetics of Deconfinement Transitions in Dense Nuclear Matter Dissipation Effects at Low Temperatures
Effects of energy dissipation on quantum nucleation of two-flavor quark matter in dense nuclear matter encountered in neutron star cores are examined at low temperatures. We find that low-energy excitations of nucleons and electrons reduce the nucleation rate exponentially via their collisions with the surface of a quark matter droplet. ∗) E-mail address: [email protected] 1 typ...
